Horseshoe Curve 2009
Horseshoe Curve is a triple track mainline for Norfolk Southern. It
is approximately 4 miles west of
Altoona, Pa. The curve is actually two
curves that create a tight arc of approximately 220 degrees. The
north
curve has a radius of 637 ft. and the south curve radius is a tighter 609
ft.
Many trains pass through Horseshoe Curve each day. On an
average day you will see passenger trains,
intermodals, coal, general freight
and more passing by.
