11/22/2006 The electrical crew has finished wiring the first DS64. Some of the LEDs on the control panel are now active. The other two DS64s should arrive in the next few days. Next they crew will program the routes. The landscaping crew will start on the background scenery as soon as track testing completes.
11/15/2006 The track blocks are wired and the electrical crew is just starting the wiring for the Tortoise switch machines.
11/12/2006 After some delays the electrical crew has gotten busy on the secondary control panel for phase 2 of the layout. The main panel construction is completed. Now comes the wiring. Digitrax DS64 electrical DCC routing controllers will be used to control all of the Tortoise turnouts except 2, the mainline crossover. An 8A booster and a Tony's PS4 power shield will power the four blocks. On the back of the control panel one of the DS64s has been mounted. The other two are on order.
10/20/2006 The landscaping crew spent the week building a scratchbuilt retaining wall.
10/15/2006 Slow going this week. Most of the work has been building a dual plate girder bridge for Donner Ridge. The track crew had to manufacture two bridge tracks. The landscaping crew is going to scratchbuild a retaining wall behind the locomotive shop in the main yard.
10/10/2006 The Tortoises have all been wired and the secondary control panel construction begins. The electrical crew is also wiring the track feeders.
9/24/2006 Most of the track has been laid and the switch machines mounted.
9/4/2006 The track laying crew is busying putting down the foam roadbed.
8/27/2006 Benchwork continues on phase 2.
8/20/2006 Phase 2 benchwork construction is in high gear.
8/7/2006 A major milestone in construction was reached today. The first half of the layout was moved into position. This will allow for phase 2 to begin.
8/6/2006 Word came down from North American Freight Operations that the new Husky Stack intermodal cars may not fit through the existing Truss bridge at Guernsey pass. The track crew validated this and proceeded to modify the bridge for this new traffic. You can see the entire rebuild process here.
8/4/2006 The track crew tests the new cleaning car. They also upgraded the throw wire on a number of turnouts to .032 and found fixed an electrical problems in one turnout.
